What types of hinges are there
Hardware hinges are mainly classified based on "installation method, opening/closing function, and application scenario". Different classification dimensions correspond to different home needs. When choosing, you should first clarify core requirements (e.g., whether buffer is needed, door panel type, etc.).
1. Standard Hinge (Non-buffered Hinge)
- Functional Features: No damping structure, no buffering during opening/closing; resets via mechanical elastic force
- Core Advantages: Simple structure, low price, large opening angle (up to 180°)
- Applicable Scenarios: Temporary storage cabinets, commercial furniture (e.g., office file cabinets), scenarios with no noise requirements
- Notes: Easy to produce impact noise when closing; may cause door loosening after long-term use
2. Hydraulic Buffered Hinge (Damped Hinge)
- Functional Features: Built-in hydraulic damper; decelerates automatically during closing phase (5-15°) via hydraulic oil
- Core Advantages: Quiet closing, anti-pinch, protects door and cabinet (avoids impact damage)
- Applicable Scenarios: Kitchens, bedrooms, kids' rooms and other scenarios requiring quietness and safety; preferred for home decoration
- Key Parameters: Buffering times (≥50,000 cycles for high-quality standards), closing noise (≤25dB)
3. Push-to-open Hinge (Handle-less Hinge)
- Functional Features: Handle-less design; door pops open automatically when pressed, needs manual pressing to close (some with buffering)
- Core Advantages: Minimalist and aesthetic, space-saving; suitable for handle-less cabinets
- Applicable Scenarios: Minimalist style cabinets, invisible wardrobes, drawer cabinets; suitable for positions where handles are inconvenient (e.g., under kitchen countertops)
- Usage Requirements: Door panel needs sufficient thickness (≥18mm) to avoid deformation from pressing
4. Removable Hinge (Quick-install Hinge)
- Functional Features: Buckle design; door can be quickly removed without unscrewing screws, facilitating cleaning and maintenance
- Core Advantages: High installation efficiency (3x faster than standard hinges), convenient later maintenance
- Applicable Scenarios: Kitchen cabinets (needing frequent cleaning for oil stains), kids' room cabinets (needing regular inspection)
- Main Styles: Quick-install hydraulic hinges (combining buffering and removable functions)
- Classification by Material: Affect Durability
- Cold-rolled Steel Hinges: Cost-effective; surface plated, medium rust resistance; suitable for dry environments (e.g., bedroom wardrobes)
- Stainless Steel Hinges (304/316): Rust and corrosion resistant; suitable for humid environments like kitchens and bathrooms; 316 material is more suitable for coastal high-salt fog areas
- Aluminum Alloy Hinges: Lightweight, high aesthetic (anodizing process); weak load-bearing (single hinge ≤8kg); suitable for light luxury cabinets
- Copper Hinges: High texture, corrosion resistant; high price; suitable for high-end custom furniture
